What do the barks mean?
Barking is one of the dogs main forms onf communicatio. The bark has many layers and each bark will mean different things. In terms of pitch, the lower the bark, the more serious the dog. For example, a dog enjoying playtime will tend to have a higher-pitched bark than one that is warning off intruders or disciplining a rude companion. Dogs don’t just bark when they are excited, although it can seem that way when they are trying to get your attention. They bark when they are frightened, lonely, surprised, irritated, and more. That means there are different barks for different moods, as well. It is your job as their owner to decipher which bark means what. Now some breeds are more vocal than others for example the guarding and herding breeds like German Shepherds and smaller dogs tend to get used to barking as a way of getting their owners attention. You can teach your dogs to ''be quiet'' if they do bark too much and you are wanting them to know when to stop. Grab some biscuits/treats and when your dog begins to bark ask them to be quiet - when you get silence, reward them. Repeat until your dog understands.
